Millennium Fellowship Project: Pioneer Outreach

Pioneer Outreach is focusing on the problem of socioeconomic inequality in higher education. There is low representation of first-generation and low-income communities in graduate/professional schools, and in research fields throughout academia. And there is less representation in high skill jobs like doctors, engineers, and scientists. This stems from the lack of opportunities afforded to low-income high school students to conduct research and prepare for research-driven careers before college. In 1 year, they are looking at launching the bridge program. This program would allow American high schoolers the opportunity to work on an online curriculum that would teach them the basic skills of research and writing, as to prepare them for doing research in college and beyond. In 5 years, they hope for the online program to be international, and they hope to develop partnerships with governments and international bodies to spread the curriculum and lessons for no cost.
