UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT CASSANDRA FAITH DUNCAN, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2020.
Salisbury University | Maryland, United States | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 9
" Working as a Millennium Fellow, I am very excited to work to improve my campus communities health and make lasting connections in the process. Mental health has been neglected for so long, and I hope to help change the stigma against it. Education, passion and communication will be key in achieving a stronger community support system for mental health on the Eastern Shore. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Student Mental Health Initiative
The Student Mental Health Initiative project aims to attain more funding, better resources, and stronger awareness for the Salisbury University Counseling Center. Mental Health, both nationally and on the Eastern Shore, is highly neglected and resources are few and far between. Although the staff at the university's counseling center work with the budget they are allotted, they still currently lack many of the same resources that other University System of Maryland Schools have. My goal is to expand the reach of mental health awareness and services across the campus community and eventually across the Eastern Shore.
Throughout the fall semester, I aim to work closely with my teammates, the administration, and the counseling center staff to ensure at least 3 events take place, a psychiatrist is put on the staff, and support groups and resources are instated and maintained. I hope to have 3 surveys sent across the campus to see where the student body is in regards to information and awareness of the counseling center.
About the Millennium Fellow
Cassandra Duncan radiates passion, responsibility, and authenticity. Throughout her life, she found ways to show kindness and be the helping hand anyone could count on. Persistence and creativity propel her over obstacles that may intrude on her journey to reach a goal. Dealing with her own mental health struggles throughout her life gives her the passion and first-hand perspective that boosts her efforts to improve the counseling center at her university, not only for herself, but those who may also struggle with mental health. She sets an example for those around her to inspire them to reach their potential.
