" Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. This quote by Margaret Mead stands true and inspires me to work with my cohort and other like-minded Millennium Fellows to achieve our collective aim of working towards the Sustainable Development Goals in collaboration with the UNAI and MCN. The Millennium Fellowship under The United Nations Academic Impact and the MCN will do wonders for my knowledge and experience, it will help me to integrate environment with social relationships on a global stage "

Millennium Fellowship Project: EcoScript

Eco-Script is a green purchasing guide/manual containing sustainable alternatives for a lot of products and services used by educational institutions. The reason behind choosing educational institutions as the target for social impact was the fact that these institutions use a lot of resources. Minor changes to their purchasing practices could make a huge difference. Additionally, we felt that students enrolled in these institutions, seeing the positive change will start to incorporate sustainability in their day-to-day life as well. The modules covered in the project include ‘Building and Construction Material’, ‘Paper Products’, ‘Furniture’, ‘Cleaning Supplies’, ‘Heating Ventilating and Cooling Appliances’, ‘I.T. Appliances’, ‘Energy Efficiency Services and Consultancy’, and ‘Renewable Energy on Campus’. Eco-Script addresses two main points which are often left out by other purchasing manuals of a similar kind. Firstly, Eco-Script is tailored for the needs of educational institutions in India and lists sustainable products and services clearly for the reader including a cost-benefit analysis. Secondly, the main issue we found with guides of similar nature was that we couldn’t make out which products exactly are eco-friendly and sustainable. This issue arises due to the abundance of ecolabels and eco marks in the market which confuses the consumer. Therefore, Eco-Script also lists trustworthy ecolabels for each of the modules informing the consumer and make decision-making much easier for educational institutions.
