" "Empathy is the most crucial quality for anyone to develop, and as a young person who is passionate about contributing to the SDGs of the United Nations, I believe the Millennium Fellowship will provide me with the opportunity to develop a whole new perspective. Through the Millennium Fellowship program, I will be able to connect with people from all over the world and exchange ideas that will help me envision my project. I am thrilled and honored to be a part of the Millennium Fellowship and am looking forward to expanding my worldview." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Paper Cranes of Venus

Paper Cranes of Venus is basically about debunking the gender stereotypes and empowering women with social entrepreneurship initiatives in the underprivileged communities. For example, we have taught Tie-dye to 50 women from the marginalized Urdu speaking community in Bangladesh and provided them knowledge about how to economically sustain themselves. This project was not limited only to economic sustainability as we have also tried to deconstruct the social misconception about SRHR, menstrual health, and consent. Further, we have provided knowledge about digital literacy so that they can establish their own business and also learn to self-educate themselves in this contemporary time of technology. We trained 15 volunteers from both mainstream and marginalized community and with the help of the volunteers, we reached the indirect beneficiaries from the marginalized community of Urdu speaking people.

About the Millennium Fellow

Labiba Rifah Nanjeeba is a bright, young and socially aware woman who is pursuing her undergraduate degree at BRAC University in Bangladesh. She was raised in Bangladesh's capital city of Dhaka. Being from a developing country has surely made her aware of the social injustice and inequality. She strives toward gender equality, social justice and equal rights to make society better and sustainable. For that Labiba became a part of a non-profit organization, "Paper Cranes of Venus" which seeks to empower women from underprivileged communities. The project's objective was to dispel common misconceptions regarding consent, menstruation health, and SRHR in society. It seeks to achieve gender equality, and economic sustainability, as well as to promote peace and cohesion among Bangladesh's underprivileged women. Her dream is to reach out to as many women as possible and support the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
