" Millennium Fellowship aligns with my professional, career, and personal development goals. In my view, Millennium Fellowship is the hub of social impact because of its association with different agencies in the field. I am excited to be a part of projects that engage collectively in advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals and Principles. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Keeping Girls in School Act

Across the world, 130 million girls are not enrolled in school. Girls ages 10-19 are three times more likely than boys to be kept out of school, particularly in countries affected by conflict. When girls reach adolescence, they are at a high risk of dropping out due to forced marriage, pregnancy, or family pressure. If all girls complete a secondary education, child marriage rates will be reduced by two-thirds, and child deaths will be cut in half, saving three million lives. My project focuses on bringing awareness to the ‘Keeping Girls in School’ Act.

About the Millennium Fellow

Buyanlkham Munkhbayar is a self-motivated and highly responsible student at Columbia University. While most Mongolians spend their early years intensely focusing on their studies, she was fascinated with helping less privileged members of the community and working with other partners to impact society positively. It is this desire that drove her to join the New Mongol Club and Amnesty International while living in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. At Northern Virginia Community College, due to her leadership skills and commitment to the well-being of others, she became President of iConnect, a college organization designed to enable international students to easily integrate with their learning environments, and Treasurer of the Student Government Association.
