" Learning and development are the driving forces behind everything I do. As a result, participating in the Millennium Fellowship program will help me discover who I am and who the people around me are, because meeting new people and experiencing new cultures is exciting, amazing, and rewarding. I am confident that this program will provide me with myriad opportunities to meet a variety of interesting young people with similar views and mindsets because there will be a high likelihood of connecting with them quickly and easily in order to achieve a common goal. The time I will spend with them will be intense and one-of-a-kind; this will be about more than just expanding my social circle; it will also be about staying in touch with inspiring and ambitious people from around the world. The international network formed may be useful in promoting SDGs in my academic or professional future. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: EcoSave

The ocean, which makes up 72% of the surface of the globe and is home to a wide variety of marine life, is the planet's life force. At least half of the oxygen we breathe comes from it, and it is essential for regulating our climate. They also contribute significantly to the global economy, which includes sectors like tourism, international shipping, and fisheries.
The ocean is currently dealing with several problems, one of which is plastic pollution. More than five trillion pieces of plastic waste are present in the water. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is also growing. To cut down on plastic pollution, immediate action is needed. We can all help by avoiding single-use plastics like straws, cutlery, and food containers. EcoSave thus focuses on SDG-14 (Life Below Water). This project aims to safeguard marine and coastal habitats from pollution and maintain them sustainably. We want to raise awareness among people about ways to keep our water bodies safe and clean in order to preserve biodiversity in Costa Rica, a country with many water bodies and a wealth of species.

About the Millennium Fellow

Jacob Deng Bol Deng is from South Sudan, He is a MasterCard scholar studying
Agricultural sciences at Earth University Costa Rica. Since he began his academic journey, he has had a strong desire to work for his community because it was incredibly satisfying to realize that his life's goal is to end suffering and improve and extend the quality of his own and others' lives. This enthusiasm grew as he observed how the world's few competent leaders manage complex projects. He was completely overwhelmed. As a result, he developed a strong desire for self-development to contribute to his society's sustainable development. To overcome his fear, he started a community empowerment initiative by volunteering as a teacher and serving his community to the best of his ability. In addition, he participated in community volunteer activities to raise awareness of Health and GBV. He always looks for new challenges and ways to gain experience and new skills. As a result, participating in the Leadership programs is critical because it allows him to improve his ability to analyze his strengths and limitations, set personal and professional goals, and have self-esteem, assertiveness, enthusiasm, and abilities to carry them out throughout his life, as well as allow him to positively contribute as a great agent of change, thus promoting the program's objectives. Moreover, it boosts his confidence in assisting, motivating, and inspiring others to grow and become leaders. He is always eager to be in contact with inspiring and ambitious young leaders
from around the world. Finally, he requires substantial extensive knowledge to
complete every task assigned to him and to become a more resilient leader of change.
