" There are people with very low SpO2 continuing on with their daily normal lives. They don't even know what that value implies; they accept their prolonged coughing as if it is something that is normal. These are the health effects of using traditional cooking methods with firewoods in a small congested kitchen. After the survey, we were determined to change this with clean cooking stoves. This is our Millennium Fellowship project. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Aghni

For now, we are starting with the problem many students in the remote areas are facing. Being a hilly area, Dhulikhel has few infratructures available to the people of lower economic class. They are using firewoods as their main source of energy to this date for cooking stuffs which has many health hazards as well as environmental problems. This is true for other rural part of Nepal as well. The main aim of our project is to teach people about the improvised cooking stove which will not produce smoke and use fewer firewoods cutting down the deforestation and health hazards. We will start will the local schools and raise awareness of this issue, and we will then teach them about using the clean cooking using improvised cooking stoves.
