Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Defense Legal Aid

The increasing proportion of under trial prisoners in jails is a problem that has been highlighted over and over again. However, the root cause of this issue - bail jurisprudence that fails Criminal Justice objectives - has received less attention. Most studies done in this field is limited to prison conditions and demographics, not the bail procedure/subsequent events itself. This is a solution-focused comprehensive study that seeks to involve both state and non-state actors. It attempts to be comprehensive by extending the study to juvenile prisons and possibly, foreigners tribunal cases.
