Millennium Fellowship Project: Education for all

Pakistan has an extraordinary asset in the shape of a youth bulge. The largest
segment of our population falling in the age group of 15-59 years is 59 percent,
whereas 27 percent is between 15-29 years according to the National Institute of
Population Studies (NIPS). This youth bulge can translate into economic gains only if
the youth have skills consistent with the requirements of a modern economy. But due
to increasing population growth, Pakistan is facing difficulty in providing sufficient
employment opportunities. Adding incompetent professional skills, saturated job
market and no awareness on market demand due to big gap between industry and
academia is leading our youth to more unemployment. It is one of the major causes of
resistance in their way to acquire quality jobs with decent work environments. The
issue is becoming more serious with rapidly changing economies that require more
innovative skills. The unemployment rate is 6.3 percent in 2020-21 according to the
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
