Millennium Fellowship Project: Foundational Tutors
Foundational Tutors has aimed to advanced SDG 4 and UNAI Principle #5 by providing underserved populations in New York with free tutoring, both in general subjects and standardized testing. Over the course of the fellowship, our stance has changed, and we are currently facilitating a partnership with The Door, a non-profit organization for underserved, homeless, or undocumented students, to provide individualized tutoring services focusing on math, writing, and standardized testing.
Foundational Tutors is unique because it has $0 cost on both ends. Tutees do not have to pay for our services, and both sides do not need to travel to different locations to interact. Our tutoring sessions are modeled to be held on Zoom meetings, so people with access to internet and a computer do not need to pay anything extra. Our project can hypothetically be held internationally at no cost as well.
About the Millennium Fellow
Saran Kake is rising senior at New York University studying Global Public Health with a minor in Africana Studies. She has many aspirations to create strategies and programs to end health disparities, improve maternal and infant health, and make adequate healthcare accessible to all throughout the world. She is very passionate about diversity and inclusion--going above and beyond to culturally immerse herself into other cultures by actively traveling around the world. Overall, she has many goals that she is determined to achieve.
