Pace University New York City | New York, United States | Advancing SDG 16 & UNAI 2
" I believe we cannot achieve a more sustainable, generous, nurturing world until we understand the power of community and collaboration. The opportunity to work and learn with a class of driven Fellows is invaluable in a society that often favors the advancement of the individual to the detriment of intentional community. I cannot wait to learn and grow in the company of the Fellows of 2022, and the incredible network of change-makers made possible by the Millennium Fellowship. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Violence Prevention for a Sustainable Future
My project would give Pace University students the opportunity to participate in an interpersonal violence prevention training program. The program would be guided by a curriculum that centers the unique experiences of the Pace University and New York City community. It would emphasize the ways in which threats to our safety, security, and autonomy directly oppose the building of a more sustainable world. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certification in violence prevention. Each student would also be given a toolkit to take with them that synthesizes information from the session. This toolkit will include best practices for students when supporting survivors of interpersonal violence, when actively participating in violence prevention, when utilizing this knowledge and commitment in other spaces and communities, and when working to establish a future that prioritizes health and well-being, gender equality, and peace and justice. This program takes the wisdom of individuals in violence-prevention spheres to the next level by making it accessible to all. The curriculum will work to remind students of their capacity to make changes and commitments in their lives that directly combat cycles of harm. Ultimately, the goal of the program is to give my peers the tools they need to have productive conversations around interpersonal violence and a safe and equitable future.
About the Millennium Fellow
Camden Robertson is a senior political science and peace & justice studies student at Pace University in New York City. She is particularly active in violence prevention and conflict transformation spaces, as well as reproductive justice and global disarmament. Her activism is guided by the idea that every person, when freed of experiences of injustice and given the capacity to thrive, has something meaningful to contribute to a more sustainable world. The goal of her project is to give Pace University students the tools needed to understand and actively combat conditions that precipitate interpersonal violence. After completing her Bachelors in only three years, Camden plans to return to school to complete a doctorate in political science.
