" "I am an immigrant. A refugee. A citizen of the world. I amexcited to be a Millennium Fellow so that one day the words refugee and immigrant lose the negative connotation associated with it and instead show the strength in being a citizen of the world." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Humanity Across Borders

With this project my goal is to bridge refugees and the complex systems of America. Oftentimes, refugees who do not have adequate resources are not able to aquire those resources because they do not know how to get them or who to reach out to. Those who do know, have a language barrier and and aren't able to get what they want. I want to open a resoruce form for mutiple refugee/resettlement agencies in Sacramento to help refugees navigate what they need. For example if they need help with healthcare, medical, WIC etc. Furthermore my biggest goal is providing translators to these agencies so that they may help refugees. Specifically the Afghan Community those who fleed from the last Taliban regime, need to fill out asylum forms and apply for residency in America. Those who came to America without any family and don't have a way to translate these documents will not be able to fill them out.

About the Millennium Fellow

Hadia Lala Gul is a fourth year undergraduate at the University of California, Davis. If you told her as a child she'd recieve the education and opprotunities she has today, she'd think it was a distant dream. Being a refugee, Hadia has had many limited opprotunities and has firsthand seen struggles that discouraged her from seeking higher education. Hadia now is pursuing the medical path in hopes that one day she may bridge the gap in healthcare that immigrants anad refugees face.
