Millennium Fellowship Project: Chronic Health Issues and its Mental Effects (CHIME)
CHIME which means Chronic Health Issues and its Mental Health Effects.
The project is focused on the two major chronic medical conditions; diabetes and hypertension. Our aim is towards the youths, middle age groups, elderly in our local community. We would be talking about the risk factors which are avoidable or inevitable. How they should be avoided. Teach them to recognize Signs and symptoms, Their management, support group system, control and when to seek help at the hospital. And we hope with joint effort, mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being will be drastically reduced
About the Millennium Fellow
Okemena Vanessa Johnson is a 5th year medical student of Afe Babalola University, Ekiti state, Nigeria. She is dedicated to helping others around her home and community. Vanessa is infinitely passionate about mental health and hopes that through her project stigmas and stereotypes surrounding chronic illnesses can be broken down. Her project aims to help those dealing with these illnesses and to let them know they are not alone. Following her graduation, she plans to further her degree, take the world by storm and change it little by little every day through medicine.
