Millennium Fellowship Project: Primerxs
"Primerxs" is a project aimed to build a support network from and for first-generation students inside the PUCP campus. It works towards Sustainable Development Goals 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 4 (Quality Education) and it addresses the unique challenges that come with being the first ones of our families to receive higher education. It works in the form of planned meetings or sessions in which the students can voluntarily attend, share particular worries, and receive advice from others first-gen peers and an academic advisor. The purpose is to create a safe, comfortable and encouraging space for this community, which will allow us to explore this new experience while minimizing fear and uncertainty.
About the Millennium Fellow
Angie Kina is a global studies/international relations student at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and a STEM enthusiast. One of her main focuses is the interaction between states and other actors and how the thought processes and decisions of their leaders shape the world in which we live. As a first-generation student and granddaughter of immigrants, Angie's purpose as a Millennium Fellow is to help other first-gen students find their paths to better opportunities through inclusive, high-quality education.
