Millennium Fellowship Project: UDAAN
Project UDAAN has been my dream project. It focuses on bringing physical and infrastructural changes that can have a major impact on providing quality education to all. As a part of an academic conference I conducted a survey in almost 10 primary government schools and I was completely startled by the conditions in which they are dwelling. The funds provided by the administrative system are not enough. These schools lack edible water facilities and clean toilets. Along with this, I have seen students sitting on the floor due to a lack of benches. Mid-day meals provided to them are highly unhygienic. In India, students studying in primary government schools emerge from very poor families, their parents are either casual laborers or employees working in the unorganized sector. For them educating their children is a distant dream in a developing country like India where there is a paucity of Funds. The most disappointing site is that many of the parents are not aware that there is a right called "RIGHT TO EDUCATION" which has been enshrined as a fundamental right in the Indian constitution. There is a wide gap between the students of primary government schools and private schools. Project UDAAN is a Hindi word meaning FLY. This project shall aim on improving the infrastructural facilities at these schools. it will aim at providing these students with the latest books through donation drives, and spread awareness among the parents and the relevant stakeholders on the importance of the right to education. This project shall also aim at providing basic infrastructural facilities in these schools including clean toilets, edible food, and water, installing benches, providing them sports equipment, and installing dustbins, and distributing basic stationary items. We also wish to expand our donation drives for providing them with these facilities. This project shall aim at improving young lives so that they can come up with flying colors and be set high in the sky (UDAAN).
