Millennium Fellowship Project: Blue Revive

My project was implemented in two phases:

1. Organizing sensitization and inspiring innovation programs.
2. Planning clean-up drives with awareness programs.

Many people worldwide are not blessed with the luxury of clean drinking water. Particularly hailing from a coastal city prone to floods and tropical cyclones, sensitization campaigns were leveraged to endow students with the necessary information to make informed and safe decisions. These programs primarily taught students about the state of our water reserves, incorporating case studies and various methods to filter out impurities in contaminated water. In contingency to this, it is important to learn about what others are doing to help avert the effects of climate change and global warming and educate students about the various innovative and experimental projects undertaken worldwide, such as solar-powered irrigation systems and environmental robotics. This is in the hopes of sparking ideas and innovation among the students.

With this in mind, partnering with local NGOs, we initiated clean-up drives in the ponds and other water bodies nearby, in the neighboring villages of Kalavakkam and Kelambakkam. These clean-up drives not only instilled a sense of civic responsibility but also promoted community bonding to help understand the grievances of the people in affected areas.

Hence, the focus of the project was to educate children about clean water and sanitation, providing them with practices they could enact in their daily lives to promote the 6th SDG. Moreover, being well-informed and encouraged, inspiring others to execute their research and projects in the future to make a difference was the main goal.
