About the Millennium Fellow
Alexa-Marie Matthews is a sophomore with a psychology major and a concentration in mental health at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, USA. Her diverse background and understanding of inequity based on income drive her passion for diminishing the effects of poverty. Alexa-Marie hopes to bring change through psychology because she has seen how impactful emotional intelligence is and how essential self-expression is to those who have experienced inequity and injustice. With her program, she hopes to teach emotional intelligence in schools. After Alexa-Marie graduates, she plans on pursuing her master's and doctorate in psychology and having her own practice.
