Millennium Fellowship Project: Brain Bites
I propose Brain Bites, an outreach initiative that will be hosted and led by select undergraduates of BRAIN, or Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience, at The Ohio State University. BRAIN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and student organization that raises awareness for neurological diseases, mental health, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Through Brain Bites, I will work with club members to deliver essential neuroscience communication to a grade 6-12 audience. Adolescence is a critical period of brain development, so brain education is of special relevance and importance to this age group. Brain Bites' content will be engaging, creative, and carefully structured to align with themes surrounding various aspects of brain form and function of interest to adolescent populations. Brain Bites will form community connections and partnerships with middle and high school science teachers, giving informative neuroscience presentations in central Ohio classrooms.
About the Millennium Fellow
Sanjana Ranade is a motivated fourth-year student at The Ohio State University studying neuroscience, Spanish, and developmental psychology. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, she is passionate about brain health and science-based community outreach. In her future, Sanjana hopes to study and work in women's behavioral health while aiding efforts in science communication. In her free time, Sanjana enjoys creative writing, trivia, and traveling.
