Millennium Fellowship Project: SAR. Sentinel 1 Tana River County Flood Mapping
in this project in order to predict where floods might occur, i used Sentinel 1 RADAR data of past flood occurences;2014-2021, to come up with a flood inventory map. i then correlated the flood inventory data with flood facilitating factors such as land use patterns, elevation, river density and distance to river using frequency ratio analysis to create a flood susceptibility map for my case study area(Tana Delta). that is quantified based on levels of susceptibility; very low to very high. By doing this, i can help communities and flood mitigation strategists be better prepared and reduce the damage caused by floods which happens to be an annual disaster in the area.
