Millennium Fellowship Project: Climate Connected
My project idea is to increase climate literacy among children, which enables them to
find innovative solutions to the local and persistent problems that surround them in
their neighbourhoods, cities and villages.
The primary idea is to conduct through research about climate change and disaster incidents in India and the reasons behind it including consumption habits, lifestyle changes, incidence of diseases, etc and exploring the initiatives that the government is doing to mitigate it and the challenges and opportunities surrounding it.
Thoroughly understanding this, in Phase two I would like to underline my findings in an easy to understand way and present it in the form of create simple, easy to understand materials(
tutorials, videos and texts) that explain the basic concepts of climate(texts about water cycle, production of energy, 17 UN SDGs, etc.) and then present my findings to campaign for people to follow a more sustainable form of living, aid the government in their initiatives by either being a part of them or building solutions for their own local communities. These would also include informing people about similar opportunities like the UN Millenium Fellowship that can help their solutions and innovative ideas being built.
The Phase three would be to use these materials by reaching out to organisations working with kids and helping them understand what climate change and climate action looks like and building a network of children, who with this knowledge think about how to make small changes within their communities to make a difference.
The long term aim of my project is to advocate for climate resilient communities and to bring an institutional level change in India and ultimately across the world to make climate and sustainability related education compulsory for all levels of the curriculum in the education system.
