Millennium Fellowship Project: MUN Outreach Programme

The Model United Nations project focuses on training girls, from schools in countries with education disparities, to carry out typical Model United Nations conferences at school. It is an online programme, fully operated from the University College London campus, by me, my fellow Millennium scholars and any other volunteers. It includes reaching out to girls’ schools in countries in Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia. It’s a short programme, consisting of 5 (1 hour long) webinars on zoom or teams:

lesson 1- focused on the founding of both UN and MUN, explaining what it’s all about.
lesson 2-focused on public speaking.
lesson 3-focused on rules of procedure and simulation of a typical MUN conference.
lesson 4-focused on how we come up with resolutions and how to negotiate.
lesson 5-focused on pupils organising themselves, choosing their topic of discussion and having their own conference!

It is a great opportunity to allow young girls to develop confidence and enlighten them on real world issues.

About the Millennium Fellow

Violet is an undergraduate biomedical sciences student at the University College London (UCL). She volunteers for the Model United Nations society at UCL, where she interacts with high school children, educating them on important global issues. Violet hopes to expand this project and reach out to young girls in countries with education disparities. She says, “ The greatest thing we can do as leaders, is teach others to lead themselves.” Through making young girls aware of global issues and challenging them to find reasonable solutions, she hopes to see more female leaders coming from countries with education disparities. Violet is passionate about gender equality, education for all and climate change.
