Millennium Fellowship Project: Bina Learns
Bina in the Dari language is defined literaly as Seer in the English language. Seer being defined as a person who can see into the future - a wise man or woman.
As the daughter of an Afghan refugee myself, I was inspired to use my advantages here in the UK to provide a future for Afghanistan. Yet the Taliban takeover in 2021 impacted this.
However, to continue being seerful, this project will have hope into the future through the education of girls in Afghanistan who may not have this hope. Through the provision of English classes taught by students in the UK, not only will it connect individuals around the world, but more importantly provide an education to girls who are currently kept behind closed doors.
About the Millennium Fellow
Zainab Shirak is a Social Sciences student attending University College of London. Her parents are from Afghanistan and though she was born and raised in the UK, she is passionate to find a route to bridging the life she leads in the UK to providing justice to girls in Afghanistan who have been silenced for far too long. Her motivation lies in ensuring that children in Afghanistan are taught the importance of education, and it’s power in slowly changing the communities around them.
