Growing up as a girl in Africa,I've seen and heard of stories of alot of women being beaten by their husbands, many girls being forced to get married at young ages and denied of education which is their basic right, girls who have been sexually abused forced to choke up in silence for many unjustifiable reasons, girls struggle for acceptance ,girls wallow in low self-esteem because of constant emotional abuse and I've always thought to myself how can I help my gender and make a difference? I believe in an equal society without discrimination, where every girl's dreams are valid, where gender doesn't stop us from attaining positions, where women can express financial freedom , where every girl has access to education, where consent is highly respected.A world where girls are not endangered species but Amazons!
Knowing well that beliefs would yield nothing without action I have constantly and continuously used my story and voice to advocate for gender equality through passionate involvement in several volunteering activities under various organizations.I have constantly imbedded the habit of writing petitions to propagate the message that " girls lives and future matters".I am currently working on a project which I plan to implement a massive campaign against gender based violence in Nigeria by taking these awareness campaigns to secondary school and this advocacy been a fulfilling part of my journey .I am utmostly concerned about empowering women and girls around the world.
Winston Churchill once said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” And while I never define my obstacles as ‘failures,’ I mark my success by my repeated perseverance through adversity. I have faced several challenges over the years from once dropping out from school in jss2 to low self-esteem yet I continued to earn exemplary grades and graduate at the top of my class. I deserve this scholarship because I have the strength and determination to achieve my goals, no matter what hurdles I have to overcome.
I am now in the third year of my International studies and Diplomacy degree. I plan to complete my bachelor’s degree and earn a Doctorate in Human right law and start up my own NGO in the years that follow. My focus is strongly on women right advocacy and free or subsidized education, especially for girls.I want to ensure that other girls do not face the same struggles in the future and ensure the attainment of sustainable impact.I have passion and determination to become a diplomat and Human right activist. With my purpose webbed in social impact, I look forward to help girls in marginalized get the right platform to explore their dreams without discrimination, giving the best chance at finding their own success.
