Millennium Fellowship Project: Tree Guardian
Tree Guardian is an environmental initiative designed to promote climate action and sustainability in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The project aims to create awareness about SDG 13 and expand green spaces within the city by planting and maintaining trees. Building upon Ethiopia’s Green Legacy initiative and inspired by Addis Ababa University's tree-planting activities in Entoto, Tree Guardian seeks to address climate change by fostering community engagement and environmental stewardship. Despite challenges in securing planting sites, the project has actively worked on raising awareness through various innovative approaches.
About the Millennium Fellow
Dan Wendwesen, grew up in the town of Butajira, Ethiopia, and is currently a 5th-year law student at Addis Ababa University, set to graduate in June 2025. His passion for international law and human rights law has fueled his commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and UNAI principles. Driven by a dedication to justice and human rights, Dan is determined to make a meaningful impact in Ethiopia, contributing to a more equitable and just society.
