Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will empower me to collaborate with like-minded peers, enhance my understanding of global health challenges, and align my efforts with the objects of UNAI. Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond Our Years Aging Initiative
Aging is the predominant risk factor for most diseases that limit healthspan, yet legislators and the general public often fail to generate enough dialogue around this topic. The goal of the Beyond the Years initiative is to facilitate community conversations to increase awareness and acceptance of non-dominant aging models of care and to understand community-based mental models of aging health that are focused on community cultures, values, and priorities. The campaign then translates these conversations into support for aging biology work through advocacy in legislatures and agencies, publicity covering both the stories of exceptional youth in geroscience, and greater representation of young leaders at the decision-making tables that are forming this field. Ultimately, this project aims to bring awareness of the aging process to the public and political lens, enabling more attention, advocacy, and funding to be brought forward and thus improve the quality of the aging experience for all individuals.
